The first panel examined the - perceived - current crisis in the European Union, which has resulted in particular from the rejection of the European Constitutional Treaty by the people of France and the Netherlands. The panel analysed this general distrust and dissatisfaction with Europe and their causes, which are economic, social and structural in nature.
