Due to deep-rooted changes in society many Western nations’ social welfare systems are facing grave problems. This international conference, gathering scholars, experts and policy makers from Europe and the U.S., raises questions about demographic, regional and political conditions influencing the structure of social policies and their ability to change. The focus will be a socio-political comparison of historic developments, contents and potentials for reform.
A conference is organised by the Austrian Ministry of Economics and Labour, the European Commission, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, and by the Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna.
