“The European Forum for Architectural Policies is a very important initiative within the European Union, for policy requires architecture. Architecture is a significant theme for policy. Therefore I am very pleased that during its Presidency of the EU Council, Austria can be host and co-organiser for this meeting. High quality contemporary architecture is tomorrow’s cultural heritage”, said State Secretary for the Arts and Media Franz Morak on Friday, the second day of the meeting of the European Forum for Architectural Policies.
The European Forum for Architectural Policies is an informal organisation in the EU, founded in 2000 on the initiative of France and Finland, which meets bi-annually. In the context of the EU Presidency, the Federal Chancellery, in cooperation with the platform for architectural policy and construction, has therefore organised a meeting that has been taking place in the Architecture Center in Vienna since yesterday afternoon. Tomorrow, the programme includes excursions in Vienna, the Burgenland and Lower Austria.
Morak emphasized that architectural policy and quality standards have been and still are the object of extensive discussion in Austria, at symposia and exhibitions. Speaking further on this topic, he announced that the buildings report that had been commissioned would be available in the autumn. “Meetings such as this one of the Forum for Architectural Policies are important in the formulation of architectonic solutions of high quality for the development of the world we live in as a European concern. In the final analysis, it is a matter of redefining architecture”, said Morak. The fact that Austrian Architecture Days and the European project “Wonderland” are taking place at the same time as the European Architectural Forum emphasizes this all the more, according to Morak.
The theme of the forum in Vienna is “Paths to Quality in Architecture and Planning”. The objective of the forum is reciprocal exchange within Europe and the development of measures for the improvement of both urban and rural architectural quality in the EU Member States. In addition to lectures and reports on the situation in architecture and planning in Austria and Europe, best practice examples from various countries will be presented.
