On Tuesday, 31 January 2006, Foreign Minister Plassnik will have talks with her Afghan counterpart Abdullah in the context of an EU Troika meeting. The EU Troika meeting in London will also be attended by the EU Foreign Policy Representative Solana, Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner and the Finnish Foreign Minister Tuomioja.
In her capacity as President of the Council of the EU, the Foreign Minister will also attend the international ministerial conference on Afghanistan taking place in London. The aim of this conference is to renew the international community’s partnership with Afghanista for the next five years. In this context, the conference is to adopt the "Afghanistan Compact". The conference will be opened by Prime Minister Blair, the Afghan President Karzai and UN Secretary-General Annan.
Plassnik will also have talks in the margins of the conference with the South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon.
