Defence Minister Günther Platter welcomed the participants of the “European Security and Defence College” to the National Defence Academy in Vienna and presented the Austrian Presidency’s programme in the area of the ESDP. “The European Security and Defence Policy is one of the EU’s most active policy areas”, Platter said.
The European Security and Defence College was an important step on the road to creating a common European security and defence agency. “As Presidency, it is our responsibility to combine the different interests in the enlarged Europe and to facilitate dialogue and compromises.”
“The Austrian Presidency will do everything in its power to continue the integration process,” according to the Minister. “In common with the following German and Finnish Presidencies, we are particularly interested in long-term initiatives.”
