Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will take part in the meeting of the General Affairs and External Relations Council of the European Union in Luxembourg on Monday and Tuesday, 10 and 11 April 2006, in her capacity as Presidency. State Secretary Hans Winkler will also be present at the meeting.
The discussions will centre on the latest developments in the Middle East and Iran, and the situation following the elections in Ukraine and Belarus. The Foreign Ministers will also discuss the status of the WTO negotiations in the Doha Development Round. Another topic will be the external aspects of the EU sustainable development strategy, with a view to the revision and planned adoption of the strategy by the European Council in June 2006.
State Secretary Winkler will chair the meeting of EU Development Ministers, who will discuss EU relations with the ACP countries, the efficiency of the EU's external aid and possible ways of improving humanitarian assistance.
A Stabilisation and Association Council meeting with Croatia, a Cooperation Council meeting with Moldova and the first Association Council meeting with Lebanon will be held in the margins of the Council.
In addition, an agreement between the EU and the International Criminal Court on cooperation and mutual assistance will be signed.
